10 things I’ve learnt by the time I’ve turned 22
1. Don’t be ashamed of not knowing everything- always be happy to learn
I remember I was chatting to an older guy some years ago and I didn’t know a random fact that seemed quite obvious to me. I immediately apologised for my lack of knowledge but it was what he replied to me that stuck with me until now. He assured me: Don’t ever apologise for what you don’t know. We’re all on a life journey that will make us richer everyday. It’s natural not knowing everything! So, now I only feel ashamed if I don’t have an interest in learning – it can be anything related to digital marketing, painting, fashion or love.
2. Be positive and embrace every moment of your life and great things will happen to you
This can sound like a huge cliché but trust me there’s nothing more wonderful than being grateful for every moment you get to spend in your life. There are times during the day when I just appreciate a smile, an hour in the gym (just joined recently), a good coffee. That’s the way to a more positive – therefore, better life.
3. Everything is possible! You just need to be really perseverant if you want to reach your ultimate goal
Step out from your comfort zone and fully embrace your goal. Let’s say you plan to travel to Bali next summer. If visiting Bali is your goal, then do everything it takes to get there (nothing illegal please). Save up by maybe let’s say, not eating out so much, exclude impulsive buying and save the ultimate fashion shopping for when you arrive there. Think about how worthy it will be, keep your goal in your mind and get there. It requires different sacrifices, but you’ll get where you want.
4.Don’t allow anyone kill your vibe (just don’t!)
Get away from people that don’t show support or inspire you to grow and be more positive. They are the vibe killers and energy suckers that you don’t need in your life!
5.Embracing a healthy lifestyle will highly contribute to your general mood
I can’t stress how important this is! I used to not eat as healthy as I could and with the support of my wonderful (knows all about health) boyfriend I started to make the change last February. On top of eating healthy, quite recently I joined a gym near my office and it’s amazing that I can get there during my lunch break. I feel so much better than last year and I can actually see how slim and healthy my body looks. Please let me know if you would like a more detailed post on that.
6. Being pro-active and bold will take you to the top of the game
I’m pro-active by nature, but I couldn’t help but notice that not everyone is. That can be ok in cases, but if you want to make yourself stand out and be the best at what you plan to do, you have to make yourself stand out and more importantly truly seek the opportunities to progress. In the end of the day, no one will be responsible for the things you didn’t do… no one but yourself.
7. Never forget your starting point
This has to do a lot with the way you’ve been brought up, but as a basic advice that I can give to you: never forget your starting point. Growing and reaching your goals should inspire others to do so themselves, not to make them feel less about themselves.
8. Don’t waste time on unimportant things
If something is not important for you at the moment, just don’t waste time on it. Learning to prioritise is key in your personal development. It’s important to always look at the bigger picture.
9. Don’t comply yourself with a situation you don’t like
Don’t like something? Change it. There are many ways in which you can change minor things to reflect your desired way of living. On a small scale – don’t like your assigned seat on the train because it’s too cold / hot there? Do something and move to a better one. Don’t be afraid to speak out and do what’s best for you. This is just a little example but you get my point.
10. Love your family & friends and make them feel you do so
I love to make my favourite people feel loved and cared about. I would do anything for them and I believe it’s important to make them know it. Surprising them with acts of kindness or little gifts I know they love is super important to me. Keeping in touch of them on a constant basis will do so much for your relationship.
